Reggio Emilia, 5–6 October 2026 , University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) hosted the 2nd TPM of the AI Literacy Teacher Academy together with European partners to discuss project progress, upcoming activities, and challenges related to integrating artificial intelligence into teacher education. European partners gathered in Reggio Emilia to review project progress and prepare for the next phases of AI literacy training in teacher education.
The AI Literacy Teacher Academy is a 36-month European initiative involving 14 partner organizations from seven countries: Greece, Cyprus, Germany, Romania, Turkey, Sweden, and Italy. The project aims to strengthen AI literacy among future and practicing teachers through a shared competence framework, innovative training curricula, educational resources, and professional development opportunities.
The project is structured into seven interconnected work packages (WPs), and currently transitioning from competence framework development to curriculum and educational resource development. The Teachers' AI Literacy Competences Framework (TAILiCF) is organised into four categories informed by the project's research design and empirical findings: AI Knowledge and Awareness; AI in Pedagogical Practice and Innovation; Ethics, Governance and Human Agency; and Professional Development and Organisational Readiness.
Building on this framework, partners are developing thematic learning modules, open educational resources, and training curricula tailored to different teacher education pathways.
During the two-day meeting, partners reviewed these developments and discussed preparations for the next implementation phase. From month 13 onward, the project plans to introduce pilot training courses for student teachers and in-service teachers, followed by international summer schools and practical interventions in participating schools.
Beyond the working sessions, the meeting offered opportunities for networking and cultural exchange, strengthening collaboration among the international partners.
By hosting this meeting and leading a key implementation work package, UNIMORE contributes to advancing European cooperation, educational innovation, and the responsible integration of AI into teaching and learning.
The Teacher Academy for AI Literacy is funded under the Erasmus+ Teacher Academies initiative (Project No. 101249404).
